Laws that countermeasure crimes, rising topics for self-beneficiaries for the citizens, gender equality, and state of economy is what the society focuses on, and being debated by those with legislative authorities. But what about the issue about the protection of our children? Are there any laws that has been established for the sake of children protection? Answers is: There ARE. Regulations like R.A 7610 “The Special Protection of Children Against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act” is one of the laws that specializes about children protection, preventing all kinds of abuses for children and women alike by putting a penalty against those who commit these “crimes”. But people have been become unaware of it and thus abiding to those laws seems unsustainable, thus making it ineffective. And there are still increasing cases of the abuse yearly according to the PNP (Philippine National Police) statistics about the cases of child abuse. So what can we do to strenghten these rights? Should the government induce fear for the guilty by establishing a much extreme penalty? Or do we need more of these regulations? Best act is to regain awareness by building seminars for the parents to protect and teach their children, and the adults to regain their awareness about these laws. “Prevention is better than cure” -Desiderius Erasmus
